Drop the Probe into the Volcano InterActivity! Animation doesn't work? - Try "Manual Animation".
Sample Scenario: Mount Etna, Mount St. Helen, Mount Fuji - live volcanoes everywhere. We need information! Let's send down a probe. Set the height of the plane and its (constant) horizontal speed. Then determine when the plane should drop the probe for it to go into the volcano hole at (0,0). Now find the horizontal distance the probe will travel in that time. Input d and run the simulator. If you are correct, the probe will drop in the volcano and the volcano will send out a flame!
GeoGebra InterActivity Directions for InterActivity READ ME FIRST!
1. Type in values in the boxes and hit Enter. Check "Current Values" in InterActivity to see that the value is set.
2. Watch your UNITS! The speed of the plane is in mph or km/h. Everything else is in ft/s or m/s! You must convert units. That is part of the problem.
3. The equation for free fall (gravity) is: h(t)=-16t2+h0 (feet and seconds) or h(t)=-4.9t2+h0 (meters and seconds). Of course: D=ST.
4. You may paste in your calculation for distance. For example, copy and paste: (1000/16)^0.5*150*5280/3600 and hit Enter.
